  • Rod Gabriel  - Thanks & suggestion

Thanks for the spreadsheet, I was building my own and then saw this. It would be helpful to have the option to include maintenance costs for vSphere licenses into this.
    Thanks
    Rod

  • Rynardt Spies  - Calculator

    Thanks Rod,

I am planning to include a lot more features in the calculator, as well as to move away from Excel. The real reason for me developing this simple calculator in Excel, was for me to try and get my own head around what the implications of the changes to vSphere licensing will be.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Kent Altena  - My results

Projecting out from our current environment and assuming existing cluster HA ratio (8 nodes -- although one expects this will increase with new HA backend), vSphere5 will cost my organization over $600,000 in potential licensing impacts. While not impacted today, vSphere 5 reduces my capability to deploy tomorrow with this cap.

  • Andreas Groth  - Values mixed up?

Hi, great idea to create this. However, I just tried it out and it seems that while it states that it uses E+, the values in the table are Standard and the data points in the chart seem to be neither of it ...or am I doing soemthing wrong here ...?
    Thanks for advise!
    Andy

  • Rynardt Spies  - UPDATE

    Hi all,

I will be releasing an update version soon. That should address any issues you may encounter with the tool.

Also, I'm working on an online version with much better functionality.

    Thanks.

  • Ravi Shanghavi  - vRAM Allocation

If I understand correctly this percentage is what your overcommitment value should be yes?

We're about to do a vCloud implementation and this wrecks havoc with licensing.. Because based on your tier you overcommit differently. As in Bronze gets 0% Memory reservation so you could potentially overcommit to eternity.. how do you license that..

  • steve  - Essentials Plus

Would be good to have Essentials and Essentials plus options too :D

  • Michael Menne  - What about N+1?

This model does not seem to correctly factor in N+1 models. Licensing capacity should be based on N+1 or N+2 for an HA cluster.

  • Bob  - New Entitlements

The changes mean that the following vRAM entitlements per edition will now be granted:

    vSphere edition vRAM entitlement
    vSphere Enterprise Plus 96 GB
    vSphere Enterprise 64 GB
    vSphere Standard 32 GB
    vSphere Essentials Plus 32 GB
    vSphere Essentials 32 GB
Free vSphere Hypervisor 32 GB (Per Host)

  • Rynardt Spies  - RE: New vSphere 5 licence changes not updated

    HI Nat / Bob,

Thank you for the comment. I am fully aware of the changes that VMware made to the vSphere 5 Licensing model. Unfortunately I've not had time to update the calculator yet.

I will try and do so ASAP.

    Regards

    Rynardt
